| LEARN TO DO HAND QUILTING in Just One Day... |
| ...and then practice for the rest of your life |
| BOOK REVIEW: |
| "I'm ready to try hand quilting again, even though I haven't attempted it for years. Nancy Brenan Daniel's new 32-page softcover book, Learn to Do Hand Quilting is Just One Day, is the reason. Nancy shares secrets she learned as a child while sitting beneath her grandmother's quilting frame, as well as a host of information from her own years of quilting. She covers the pros and cons of the hand-quilting materials and tools available. Most importantly, she breaks the hand-stitching technique into eight distinctive steps, each illustrated with lifelike drawings. Since she follows the title with "...then practice for the rest of your life," four attractive projects are included." |

Nancy's Mom died, in April of 2002, with a little secret. A quilt top. As Nancy was cleaning out some boxes -- stored when her Mom had gone into the Friendship Village Care Center -- she discovered one special treasure from her Mom. |
| A Hand Quilting Story |
A large quilt top that her Mom had mostly hand pieced -- Bow-Tie pattern blocks with a Spool Block border. The quilt is of muslin and scraps Nancy had given her for the two finished quilts Mary, her Mom, had made. Nancy has always thought of Hand Quilting as akin to running a marathon. To begin...one must think of the end goal...not all the steps in between. Her Mom has left her a special gift and a challenge. She'll let you know when Mary's last quilt is finished. |
| HAND QUILTING TIPS To improve your hand quilting stitch...without taking my class or buying my books... *Reduce the thickness of your batting. A very good look can be had using v-e-r-y thin batting. *Use the smallest 'between' quilting needle you can handle. Practice until you can thread and use a very small needle. |
